northboroNorthborough – The Northboro Junior Woman's Club successfully petitioned the Board of Selectmen at its March 12 meeting to allow a special display in front of Town Hall to raise awareness of child abuse. Members of the club stated that incidents of child abuse have increased in Massachusetts since 2008.

The display will consist of up to 400 colorful pinwheels, paid for by public donations. The money raised by the event will go to assistance for abuse victims, and for education programs. To donate, contact the Northboro Junior Woman's Club by email at [email protected], or by phone 508-735-5086.

In addition, a draft of the April 24 Annual Town Meeting warrant was presented at the meeting. A series of citizen's petitions will result in the amendment of this draft to include five additional proposals, one of which would require the presentation of a photo ID before casting votes in state or federal elections.

The board also approved a pole petition from Verizon New England for the placement of a pole on Otis Street in support of the Wal-Mart under construction at that location, and the placement of a 20,000-gallon underground storage tank required for the construction of a FedEx refueling facility at 300 Bartlett St.
