Carl E. Temple, 75Westborough – Carl E. Temple, 75, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation-Eliot in Natick after a lengthy illness.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Gordon and Lillian (Pocknett) Temple. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia (Hart) Bleyle.

He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 50 years, Ethel L. (Rice) Temple; his children Kimberly Temple, Michael Temple, and Laura (Temple) Donovan and her husband Timothy; and his granddaughters, Lindsay and Leslie Donovan. He is also survived by his brother, Walter Temple; mother-in-law, Dorenda Rice; brother-in-law,

Joel Rice; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Temple was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean. He was a former member of the Westborough Garden Club, Downtown Revitalization Committee, Westborough Country Club, Naval Minewarfare Association, and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah). He was instrumental in restoring the historical water fountain at the entrance to Memorial Cemetery in town after more than 20 years in storage. He also designed and installed the landscaping at the war memorial site in front of the police station.

He worked for 24 years at the former Bay State Abrasives Company in Westborough, then turned his gardening hobby into a full-time shrub care and design business along with his son.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 15, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 16, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors in Pine Grove Cemetery.
