Forte Galanis, 98Southborough – Forte Galanis, 98, formerly of Marlborough, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Marlborough Hills Health Care Center after an illness. He was the husband of the late Nellie (Mocerino) Galanis, who died in 1988.

He leaves several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Costa Galanis and Amelia Cuniff.

Born in Marlborough, son of the late George and Efihalio (Papacosta) Galanis, he had lived in Southborough for most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 159th Infantry and seeing combat in Central Europe, Naples-Foggia, Tunisia, Southern France, Rome-Arno, and the Rhineland.

For many years, Mr. Galanis worked for the former M.D.C.-Wayland Division as a laborer and a truck driver. He was a member of Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church in Marlborough. He was a longtime member of the Worcester Homing Pigeon Club, and for many years raised and raced his pigeons throughout the local area. He loved the outdoors and exercised daily.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 19, at 11 a.m., in the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough, with the Rev. Gregory Christakos officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery of Marlborough. A calling hour will be held prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m.
