Northborough – Stephen Mendrala, 62, died Saturday, March 17, 2012 at UMass/Memorial Healthcare Center (University Campus) of Worcester.
He leaves his loving wife of 23 years, Jane (Furness) Mendrala; his daughter, Renee Mendrala of San Francisco; his step-daughter, Melanie Hellen of Florida; his adoring granddaughters, Mikela Jane Ziegler of Florida and Olivia Obenour of San Francisco; his sister, Janet Moreau and her husband, Richard, of New Bedford; a niece, Anmarie Beady; and two nephews, Mike and Mark Moreau.
Born and raised in New Bedford, son of the late Aloysius Paul and Sophie (Polchlopek) Mendrala, he graduated from New Bedford High School and attended UMass Amherst.
Mr. Mendrala was an avid motorcycle and car enthusiast who enjoyed racing and working on cars. He enjoyed spending time attending car shows and races at the New England Speedway, Limerock, and Watkins Glen.
He will be missed by his friends and family for his dry sense of humor and love of life.
Visitation hours will be held Wednesday, March 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
