Hudson – Of course Organic Mulch & Landscape Supply sells mulchâ”14 varieties and colors, including playground-certified mulch. And it's organicâ”no chemical dyes used.
But the company carries 9,000 other products at its Hudson facility, just about anything you or your landscape contractor will need for your yard, except the plants themselves.
Organic Mulch is a wholesale supplier for landscaping contractors in the region, but it's also a retailer and welcomes homeowners, whether they want to buy a bag of fertilizer in the on-premises store or browse the vast array of stone products for a project.
Andrew Blank started Organic Mulch three years ago after working in the landscaping business.
“I was frustrated with the quality of materials available, the pricing, and the way suppliers treated contractors,” Blank said. “I wanted to create a one-stop shopping location for landscape contractors, carrying the highest quality materials and offering the best prices.”
Most of Organic Mulch's products are organic, including many of the fertilizers, weed killers and pest control agents. Playground-certified mulch and play sand are suitable for areas where children play, and Organic Mulch also sells playground equipment. During the winter months, the company sells bulk salt and sand to snow plow contractors and cities and towns. The store offers a complete selection of winter-related products, including ice melting products that are pet- and plant-friendly and do not damage metal, concrete or asphalt.
All types of stone products are on display, with sample installations around the grounds to show how the stone looks when installed. There are pavers, steps and treads, stones for walls, crushed stone, and decorative stone such as river rock and beach pebbles in assorted sizes and colors, even crushed seashells.
Equipment and tools to handle most jobs are for sale or available to rent, and the company will deliver mulch, stone and other products.
There's a casual barbecue every Friday afternoon during the summer season, showcasing the outdoor grilling and cooking facilities the company sells, and providing a great opportunity to shop for ideas.
“If you'se working with a contractor, you can walk through our yard together and look at the options. If you'se going to do a project yourself, we'sl help design it and walk you through the process. We work with most landscapers in the area, so we can recommend people to help,” Blank said.
Blank is particularly excited about a new grass seed, Cutting Edge, that Organic Mulch is offering. Cutting Edge is a blend of Kentucky Bluegrass and other top-rated grass cultivars. Once Cutting Edge is established, it is designed to grow to a dwarf height and then slow down its growth rate.
The result, Blank said, is a low-maintenance lawn that needs mowing only once or twice in the spring and the same in the fall. Many established Cutting Edge lawns thrive on only natural rainfall and/or ambient groundwater because Cutting Edge can grow roots up to 48 inches deep, he said. This deep, groundwater-seeking root structure allows the grass to thrive during dry conditions.
Cutting Edge is also endophyte-enhanced, which means it naturally repels many insects, Blank said, and this grass spreads quickly, crowding out weeds so the lawn needs little to no herbicide treatment.
The company offers a variety of services to landscapers, including truck maintenance, equipment rentals, masonry supplies, and, during the winter, is open 24 hours a day in snowstorms to provide services, repairs and supplies.
Organic Mulch's retail hours during the spring and summer are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The website, www.organicmulchsupply.com, offers detailed information on the different products that are available, from mulch to stone to tools to fertilizers, and a schedule of how-to classes.
The company is located at 17 Brent Drive in Hudson, just off of Main Street. For additional information, call 978-212-3280.
