The C.A. six tips of the day for April 9

By Bonnie Adams, Government Editor

Today is Monday, April 9, the 100th day of 2012.

On this day in 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his troops to General Ulysses S. Grant, thus ending one of the darkest and bloodiest wars ever fought on American soil. By its end, there was an estimated 350,000 casualties of the Civil War.

On this day in 2005, Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, wed his longtime mistress, Camilla Parker Bowles. Although an adult in his late 50s, Charles first needed permission to do so from his mother, the Queen. The wedding was originally scheduled for April 8 but then was moved as not to conflict with the funeral in Rome of Pope John Paul II.

Today's birthday includes – Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester (1986), Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played youngest daughter Rudy on “The Cosby Show” (1979), and Hugh Hefner, who is of course famous for bunnies, just not of the Easter variety (1926).

Here are six tips for the day –
