Former Marlborough official Anthony R. Trodella diesMarlborough – Anthony R. “Tony” Trodella, 68, died Saturday, April 7, 2012 after a long illness.

He leaves his beloved wife of 46 years, Anne M. (Roche) Trodella of Marlborough; his daughter, Joanne Horgan and her husband, Timothy, and two grandsons, Thomas and Benjamin of Burlington; his son, Anthony M. “Tony” Trodella of Plymouth, N.H.; and his daughter, Mary Trodella and grandson Griffin Murphy of Marlborough. He also leaves his mother, Phyllis Falbo of Waltham; his siblings, Joseph and wife Carol Fatta of Gloucester and Richard, and wife Kathleen of Nashua, N.H.; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Born in Boston, the eldest son of Phyllis (Consolo) Trodella Falbo and the late Anthony Trodella, he grew up and was educated in Watertown. He graduated from Boston State College in 1966 with a degree in Education, and moved to Marlborough in 1966, where he has lived for 46 years.

Mr. Trodella began his long career as an educator teaching elementary science in the Waltham public schools for 25 years. He worked many additional jobs, including butcher, driver's education teacher for Christos Auto School in Marlborough, and real estate salesperson. He went on to be educated and certified as a real estate appraiser through Bentley College. He then owned and operated ATR Appraisal consulting services in Marlborough.

He served as Principal Assessor and Chairman of the Board of Assessors for the city of Marlborough since 2000. He is a member, designated CMA and MAA of the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers, the International Association of Assessing Officers, and the Middlesex County Assessors Association. Throughout his long career, he was able to continue his passion for education by serving as an adjunct professor of Real Estate Appraisal Theory and Technique at Bentley College from 1982-1998; an instructor for the Mass. Board of Real Estate Appraisers, the Appraisal Institute, and various other professional organizations.

Mr. Trodella was an active member in both his professional and home communities. He was a member and past president of the Marlborough Rotary Club, and was also a member and past president of the Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers and member and former Trustee of the National Appraisal Foundation.

Throughout his career, he received many special honors for his service and dedication, including the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce Businessman of the Year in 1994 and the Clifford E Gardner Memorial Award from the Boy Scouts of America, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.

He was an avid model train collector and enthusiast who also enjoyed fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, his love and loyalty for his friends and family, and his wonderful gift for teaching children and adults.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 12, at 10 a.m., from the John P. Rowe Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Marlborough, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Cremation will follow and burial at Evergreen Cemetery will take place at a later date. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 11, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home.
