Shrewsbury High School mourns loss of golf coach, Leo MurrayShrewsbury – Leo M. Murray Jr., 59, of Shrewsbury, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 5, 2012.

He leaves his two children whom he loved dearly, a daughter Meaghan R. Murray of Oxford and a son Zachary W. Murray of Holden, his close companion Adrienne Nys of Holden, his former wife Carol Murray of Shrewsbury, two brothers, Steven Murray of Bellingham and Mark Murray of West Boylston, a sister Patricia Kreckie of Braintree, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was born in Chelsea, son of the late Leo M. and Beverly (Ladue) Murray. He attended Revere High School and Boston University in his early years, later moving to Shrewsbury where he proudly raised his children.

A true Irish man, he was an avid Boston sports team fanatic. He also loved animals, traveling, and going to the beach. He worked for the Boston Globe for many years, but more recently found what was his true calling, coaching the golf team at Shrewsbury High School. Teaching them what he loved to do, his players quickly became his second family.

Leo had a heart of gold, as he always put everyone else first and would go out of his way to help anyone. Leo's passion for life and courageous spirit touched the lives of every person he met and knew. His unforgettable humor and infectious laughter brightened the lives of many, and if he could simply put a smile on one's face, he was a happy man. He will be missed dearly by all those blessed to have known him and he will remain in our hearts forever.

A celebration of Leo's life will be held at the Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, 284 East Temple St., Boylston, MA as an open reception for all family and friends to attend on April 14th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, all donations in his memory may be made on behalf of Shrewsbury High School Athletic Booster Association, 64 Holden St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
Other funeral arrangements are private.
