Fresh Air Fund seeks volunteer host familiesRegion – This summer, local residents can volunteer with the Fresh Air Fund and host a New York City inner-city child ages 6 to 12. Thousands of volunteer host families throughout 13 Northeastern states and Canada open their hearts and homes to New York City children from low-income communities through The Fund's Friendly Town program. The Friendly Town program allows youngsters from New York City to enjoy new experiences like riding a bike, swimming in a lake and making new friends. The children will arrive in this area Friday, July 20, for a one-week trip.

A Fresh Air child loves to be able to walk the dog at night while looking at the stars and to water the flowers with a garden hose – things the child cannot do at home. Volunteer families can share that type of experience. Since 1877, The Fresh Air Fund has provided more than 1.7 million inner-city children with the opportunity to enjoy simple pleasures – summertime swimming in a pool, playing in the backyard or roasting marshmallows.
