Locals report military newsShrewsbury – Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Christopher J. Trainor, a 2006 graduate of St. John's High School, Shrewsbury, recently graduated from the Combat Engineer Officer Course.
During the course conducted at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N. C., students receive instruction in basic and supervisory level operational and planning skills in engineering-related subjects pertaining to mobility, counter-mobility, survivability and general engineering. Upon completion of the course, students are qualified to perform tasks appropriate for a platoon commander.
Trainor joined the Marine Corps Reserve in May 2009.

 

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher J. Tisdell, son of Kathy and Joseph Tisdell of Shrewsbury, recently completed the Navy Nuclear Power Training Unit course with Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, N.Y.
Tisdell received instruction about nuclear theory, chemistry, physics, reactor operations, safety and security. Upon completion of the course, Tisdell was designated a nuclear power operator.
Tisdell is a 2009 graduate of Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School in Marlborough and joined the Navy in September 2009.

 

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jason K. Kim, a 2002 graduate of St. John's High School, Shrewsbury, and fellow sailors and marines aboard the amphibious transport dock USS New Orleans, home-ported in San Diego, Calif., recently participated in detainee handling training while conducting a two-week certification exercise off the coast of southern California.
The training ensured that the ship's visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) team and members of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit's (MEU) Maritime Raid Force (MRF) that all personnel on the ship are capable of properly handling a detainee in the event the ship's VBSS or MRF team were to apprehend during a mission.
Kim joined the Navy in July 2006.
