The C.A. six tips of the day for April 26Region –Today is Thursday, April 26, the 117th day of 2012.

On this day in 1986, the world's worst nuclear power plant accident occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power station in the Soviet Union. Thirty-two people died and dozens more suffered radiation burns in the first days after the accident with an estimated 5000 eventually dying after the accident from cancer and other associated illnesses. Millions more have been thought to have been adversely affected health-wise in some way. The plant was closed down for good in 2000.

“They” said it wouldn's last – and it didn's. On this day in 1986, an unlikely pair, Maria Shriver, a member of the Kennedy family dynasty, married movie star, bodybuilding champion, staunch Republican and future Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger in Hyannis, MA. The two split last year after allegations of Arnie's trysts with multiple women reportedly became too much for Maria to bear.

Today's birthdays include – I.M. Pei, the famous Chinese-American architect (1917), the iconic comedienne Carol Burnett (1933), and John James Audubon, the artist known for his magnificent paintings of birds (1785).
