Join in for a June 9 walk in AshlandAshland – The public is invited to take part in a walk in the town of Ashland Saturday, June 9. Walkers have a choice of walking a 5km (3.1 miles) or 11km (7.2 miles) walk routes. Both loops travel through downtown Ashland.

The 5km loop continues to Stone Park along the way to the natural trail up Megunko Hill and the MBTA access road. Walkers will get a view of what the participants of the Boston Marathon see as they run along this route and will also pass the Ashland Technology Center, also known as the clock tower. The second loop of the 11km features Marathon Park and a section of the Bay Circuit Trail.

The start point is the Trackside Grille at 78 Front St. The walks start between 9 a.m. and noon and finish by 3 p.m.

The walk is non-competitive and is accomplished at your own pace along a marked route. The 5km loop is suitable for strollers, but not for wheelchairs. The second loop is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Leashed pets are welcome and clean-up laws apply.

The walk is sponsored by the Walk’n Mass Volkssport Club. Volkssporting events promote fun, fitness, and friendship by providing walking and other non-competitive events free to the public.

Volkssporting also offers an achievement awards program. For further information contact Beate at 508-429-3564 or [email protected], or visit the club website at www.ava.org/clubs/walknmass.
