Region –Today is Monday, May 7, the 128th day of 2012.
Although it was still months before the Olympic Games in Los Angeles were set to start, there were games of another sort being played on this day in 1984 – political ones. Citing safety concerns, the Soviet Union announced that it would not be sending athletes to LA. The decision was in response to the US boycotting the Moscow Olympics four years earlier.
On this day in 1963, the world was introduced to what would become one of the most iconic movie characters of all time – James Bond. Sean Connery was the first to play the superspy 007, in the movie, Dr No.
Today's birthdays include two of the most legendary composers of the 1800's, Johannes Brahms (1833) and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840).
