Shrewsbury – At the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen meeting May 8, a topic of discussion was once again “Drexel the Dog.” Drexel, a Boxer-type dog owned by Kimberly Collins of 47 Memorial Drive, is said to have been running amuck since 2009 as evidenced by numerous and continuing complaints from neighbors who view Drexel's alleged menacing behavior and his habit of repeatedly fouling their yards with great displeasure.
At a previous board meeting, Town Animal Officer Leona Pease gave the board a summation of the long-running situation. At that time, the board asked Pease to submit recommendations regarding what actions Collins take regarding her dog.
At the May 8 meeting Pease did so, repeating recommendations that the board received in January 2011: 1) install a dog fence; 2) employ a double-gate type closure to ensure no dog escapage; 3) ensure that Drexel and any visiting dog guests be leashed when outside the enclosure; and 4) that Drexel and alleged canine accomplice, “Zora” – an American Bulldog – be boarded at Collins” expense when she is away before the fenced enclosure is completed. Collins was invited to speak but didn's come forward to do so.
After a lengthy discussion, the board, by a unanimous vote, ordered that the recommendations be adopted and that Collins be ordered to comply within 30 days.
