Westborough – Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.'s office released this statement this morning regarding yesterday's tragic death of a four year-old Westborough boy:
The four year-old boy, who died yesterday after falling into a swimming pool at an apartment complex on East Main Street, pushed out a screened window and walked away from his family's first floor apartment, according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
Alexie Lepoer of 135 East Main St., Apt. R4 at Park Village West complex was found in the murky water of the pool late yesterday afternoon. Visibility in the pool was less than two feet.
The boy, who had been diagnosed with severe Autism, was likely carrying a cordless phone that he used as a toy. The phone and a diaper were found near the fenced-in pool. The gate was on the fence was locked.
The boy's family had searched for him on their own before calling police shortly before 5 p.m. He was found shortly after 5:30 p.m.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has accepted the case and will determine the cause and manner of death.
State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester District Attorney's Office and Westborough Police are continuing to investigate the death.
