Sparked by a desire to connect local businesses in need of talented workers with city residents who are unemployed or looking for a career change, Mayor Arthur Vigeant enlisted the help of the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Quinsigamond Community College in this collaborative effort. The “Marlborough Works!” initiative also includes a free Professional Résumé and Interview Workshop, which will be held May 30 at Marlborough High School. (Pre-registration is required for that event – for more information go to http://communityadvocate.com/2012/05/10/marlborough-works-to-host-free-resume-and-interview-workshop/ ).
Vigeant's early outreach to the Marlborough business community as part of his administration's efforts to retain quality businesses and attract new ones to the city helped convince him this initiative would be great for the city, he noted in a press statement.
“It was very clear to me after several meetings I had with a number of well-known companies that they were looking to add to their workforce,” he said. “I thought a job fair was the best way to build a bridge between the companies in our city and the talented residents we have who are waiting for an opportunity to come their way. It's a win-win for everyone.”
