Marlborough – This week, Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant announced an innovative program designed to increase the number of teens who go off to work this summer.
The Youth Employment Program, which will employ 20 16- to 19-year-olds (10 by the city and 10 by local businesses) who fit certain criteria, is a collaborative partnership involving the city, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, the nonprofit Partnerships for a Skilled Workforce and local businesses.
Students will work 25 hours per week for six weeks in July and August, and will be paid $8 an hour. They will also receive job readiness training, including resume writing and interviewing skills.
Local participating employers are St. Mary's Credit Union, Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School, the Advanced Math and Science Academy, Universal Window and Door, Embassy Suites, and the New England Sports Center.
