Marlborough – Aphrodite “Rose” (Theodorou) Hassapes, 94, died peacefully at Marlborough Hospital on the afternoon of Monday, June 4, 2012.
Rose was born Dec. 24, 1917, in Marlborough to the late Aristeides and Glikeria Theodorou and remained a lifelong resident. After her school years, she worked at JC Penney and United Stores. Upon graduation from beauty school, she worked with her daughter at Chris’ Beauty Salon in Marlborough, until her retirement.
Rose attended Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church and was a longtime member of the Ladies Enosis Society.
As a breast cancer survivor of almost 50 years, she cherished family gatherings in Marlborough and at her second home on Cape Cod, and her travels to spend time with family and friends. She was lovingly called “Yiayia”(Greek for grandmother) by many.
Rose's kind and gentle soul will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters, Chrisoula Tzellas and her husband Ted of Framingham and Grace Biliouris of Raleigh, N.C. and Tom Biliouris of Fayeteville, N.C.; her son, Nicholas Hassapes and his wife Linda of Marlborough; eight grandchildren; Barbara Schneider, Lisa Tzellas, Dean Tzellas, Maria Hicks and her husband Travis, Christina Brunk and her husband Tracy, Joanna Tillottson, Mark Hassapes and his wife Stephanie, and Matthew Hassapes and his wife Julija; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her sister; Ann Spanos of Marlborough. She was married to the late Apostole (Paul) Hassapes.
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 8, at 10:00 a.m., at Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, Cashman and Central streets, Marlborough. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street in Marlborough. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, June 7, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough.
