New Trail over Walnut Hill in Southborough

southboroSouthborough – Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) recently teamed up with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to build a new trail over Walnut Hill in Southborough.

The trail offers an additional loop adjacent to SVT's Sawink Farm and connects to the many miles of trails in the Crane Swamp area, which includes SVT's Cedar Hill Reservation and is highlighted by Westborough Community Land Trust's Charm Bracelet.

SVT initiated the project in collaboration with DCR.? SVT Assistant Director of Stewardship Dan Stimson and the lead volunteers on this project, Don Burn and Marge Fisher, spent several seasons evaluating the terrain and environment and then proposed the best route for the trail. Over the course of three community workdays, with crews lopping, sawing, raking and putting up trail markers, the new loop on SVT's Crane Swamp Regional Trails map is now complete.

Construction was possible thanks to the help of many volunteers, including groups from REI Framingham, EMS Northborough and the Rivers Givers from the Rivers School in Weston.? Additional links from this trail are in the works.? Visit svtweb.org for updates.
