The C.A. six tips of the day for June 12Region ?Today is Tuesday, June 12, the 164th day of 2012. Today is the inaugural National Jerky Day, a day to celebrate the ubiquitous convenience store snack. According to industry officials, dried meats, including jerky, actually are more popular than other salty snacks, including popcorn and pretzels.

Horse racing fans were heartbroken over the past weekend when I'sl Have Another had to pull out of the Belmont Stakes. But on this day in 1920, it was Man O” War who was the star of the 52nd Belmont Stakes, as he set the record for the fastest mile ever run by a horse to that time.

On this day in 1963, African American civil rights leader Medgar Evers was shot to death by ?white supremacist Byron De La Beckwith.

And on this day in 1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman were brutally stabbed to death outside Nicole's California home. The ensuing trial of the chief suspect in the murders, Nicole's ex-husband football player O.J. Simpson became one of the most sensational legal events of the 20th century. O.J. Simpson was ultimately acquitted; no one else has ever been tried for the murders.

Born on this day: George Bush, the 41st president of the United States (1924); the late Anne Frank (1929) and supermodel Adriana Lima (1981).

5. ?The Shrewsbury Republican Town Committee will hold its first annual Flag Day Celebration at Ski Ward Hill on Thursday, June 14. ?The event costs $10 per person and includes your choice of hamburger, hot dog, cheeseburger, veggie burger or chicken tenders, fries, a fountain drink and a kiddies” ice cream. There will also be a cash bar serving bottle and draft beer and red and white wine. Tubing is also available for $7 an hour per person.
