Shrewsbury teams compete at Destination Imagination tourney

Shrewsbury – Eleven Shrewsbury Public School Destination Imagination (DI) teams went to the DI regional tournament at Millbury High School. The teams included primary (first- and second-graders), elementary (third- through fifth-graders), middle (sixth- through eighth-graders) and high school teams.
Three teams placed first in their challenges and will go on to compete in the state DI tournament at WPI.
Elementary team – Assembly Required – Technical Challenge – First Place. Team members – Varun Subbiah, Ria Narahari, CJ Petrangelo, Sriya Maguluri, Eashan Prabhu, Astitva Asthana, Shashank Madarapu. Parent team managers – Lavanya Thiagarajan, Pragati Narahari, Sonal Asthana.
Elementary team – Hold It – Structural Challenge – First Place. Team members – Praneet Mekala, Siddhant Dosi, Harini Shanmugam, Joseph Wang, Anshuman Madhukar, Nitin Volety, Shruthi Sivasubramanian. Parent team managers – Anantha Mekala, Manish Dosi.
Middle School team – Hold It – Structural Challenge – First Place. Team members – Aastha Gupta, Anna Bolon, Kristen Hanna, Samantha Welch, Eliana Jreiji, Srujana Tammisetti. Parent team managers – Anil Gupta, Chin Sun.

In addition, one elementary team won one of the highest awards in Destination Imagination, The Renaissance Award for outstanding Design, Engineering, Execution, Performance.
Elementary team – Coming Attractions – Fine Arts Challenge – Renaissance Award. Team members – Garima Prabhakar, Athena Wu, Uma Kanzaria, Nikhita Alwarappan, Sonu Patel, Nikhita Sikharam, Srika Raviraj. Parent team managers – Timir Prabhakar, Rajendra Kanzaria.

This team's performance was cited for highlighting Indian and Chinese dance performances, including a Chinese fan dance and for the team-created song about cultural understanding, and incorporating these elements into the theatrical performance of creating a movie trailer.
