Southborough – Guy L. Akers, 96, formerly of Southborough, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 in the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge. His wife of 42 years, Regina (Fitzpatrick) Akers, died in 1995.
He leaves two sons, Jay Akers, and his wife, Patti of Milford and Stephen Akers and his wife, Janet, of Vicksburg, MS; two grandchildren, Michael and Kate; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Akers, and a sister, Barbara Williams.
He was born in East Andover, Maine, son of Guy L. and Lucetta (Howard) Akers, and he lived in Weston before moving to Southborough where he lived for over 50 years. He graduated from Northeastern University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
Guy worked for Whitin Machine Works for many years, retiring in 1980. He was an avid sports enthusiast who also enjoyed fishing.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 21, at 10:30 a.m., in Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough. Burial will follow in Southborough Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the funeral home.
