Harvard – Fruitlands has announced that author Heather Lang will be on hand at the newly updated Fruitlands Museum Store Saturday, July 14, from 1 to 3 p.m., to sign and read from her recently released children's book, Queen of the Track.
The inspirational picture book details the challenges and triumphs of Alice Coachman, who became the first African-American woman to win a gold medal at the Olympics when she took top honors in the high-jump at the 1948 London games. The book is illustrated by Floyd Cooper.
The reading will take place at the Fruitlands Museum Store, which recently underwent a number of changes, including expanding the children's literature section. In addition, Fruitlands has partnered with the Worcester Center for Crafts to feature works by local artists in the store.
