Join in a picnic walk in Northborough Aug. 12Northborough – The public is invited to take part in Walk’n Mass's picnic walk Sunday, Aug. 12, in Northborough. All participants are invited to join in the picnic social after the walk. The walk is non-competitive and is accomplished at your own pace along a marked route. Both loops are suitable for strollers but not for wheelchairs. Leashed pets are welcome and clean-up laws apply.

Walkers have a choice of walking an 11km (6.8 miles) or 5km (3.1 miles) routes. The walk routes highlight Northborough's first burying ground, Juniper Hills Golf Course; the former estate of Daniel B. Wesson, of the famed Smith & Wesson gun manufacturing company built in 1886; General Henry Knox's route; landmarks such as the Northborough Bank built in 1854 and the Northborough Library built in 1868; and a residential area known as “Poets Corner.”

The start point is Ellsworth McAfee Park on Route 135 in Northborough. Registration times are from 9:30 to 10 a.m. for 11km walkers (those walking both loops) and 10:30 to 11 a.m. for 5km walkers.

The walk is sponsored by the Walk “n Mass Volkssport Club. Volkssporting events promote fun, fitness, and friendship by providing walking and other non-competitive events free to the public. Volkssporting also offers an achievement awards program.
