Region – Today is Tuesday, July 17, the 199th day of 2012. Today is World Day for International Justice, a day commemorated by many around the world as a way to bring attention to issues such as genocide, violence against women and human rights crimes.
?On this day in 1955 Disneyland opened in California. One of the grandest of all theme parks, it ?plays hosts to more than 14 million visitors a year from all over the world. ?
?On this day in 1996 all 230 people aboard Flight 800 perished shortly after take- off from New York's Kennedy International Airport. Although many suspected terrorism or an errant U.S. Navy test missile was responsible, a lengthy investigation concluded that mechanical failure doomed the flight.
?And on this day in 2011, Casey Anthony was released from jail in Orlando, FL. Two weeks earlier, in a courtroom case that captivated the world's attention, Anthony was acquitted of charges that she had murdered her two-year old daughter Caylee.
