Region – Today is Thursday, July 19, the 201st ?day of 2012.
On this day in 64, the Great Fire of Rome completely burnt down the city. According to legend, Nero, the Roman Emperor, fiddled as the city burned.
On this day in 1848, a two-day Women's Rights Convention opened in Seneca Falls, New York. It was there the term “Bloomer Girls” originated.
And on this day in 1989, Rebecca Shaeffer, a 21-year-old actress, was murdered in California by a mentally unstable man who had been stalking her. Her death helped lead to the passage in California of legislation aimed at preventing stalking.
Today's birthdays include – Lizzie Borden, the infamous Massachusetts woman accused of killing her parents with an axe (1860); Brian May, the guitarist for rock band Queen (1947); and ESPN anchor Stuart Scott, (1965).
