Marlborough – An American Red Cross blood drive will be held in Marlborough Wednesday, July 25, from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Masonic Hall, 8 Newton St.? This drive is open to the public and residents from all surrounding towns are invited to participate.? Appointments are preferred, but walk-in donors are also welcome.? The Red Cross is hoping to collect at least 35 life-savings pints of blood at this drive.
All donors will receive a coupon good for a free carton of Friendly's Ice Cream, and can register for a chance to win Red Sox tickets. Additionally, donors will also be able to enter a drawing to win a pair of tickets to the Aug. 15 Bruce Springsteen concert at Fenway Park.
The Red Cross has to collect 3,000 pints of blood every day to meet the basic needs of patients throughout the New England Region.? In the United States, blood is needed for transfusions every two seconds.? This blood can only come from caring volunteer donors.? All blood types are needed, blood type O is the universal donor and always in great need.
If you are in good health, weigh 110 pounds or more, and have not given blood in the past 56 days you may try to donate.? The American Red Cross now requires a positive ID before donating.? You must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with signed parental consent form).
