Northborough – Swinging bats and fly balls filled the air at Casey Field in Northborough July 22, during the championship game of the Northborough Invitational Baseball Tournament. Teams of 12-year-olds from Westborough, West Boylston, Auburn, Sterling and Southborough and two teams from Northborough participated in this summer tournament.

After a competitive and exciting tournament, Northborough team #2, coached by Mike Reale and Dominik Rosa (along with assistant coaches Steve Anderson and Bill Lyons) took home the championship trophy. Players included Kevin Reale, Nathan Anderson, Jose Baez, John Polymeros, Mark Polymeros, Nathan Rosa, Eric Coupe, Ethan Ash, Chris Lyons, Pat Robbins and Andy Robbins.

Receiving the sportsmanship award and scoring his first-ever homerun was Northborough team #2 member John Polymeros.

“The sportsmanship award trophy is a glove that holds my home run ball perfectly,” John said.

?Coach Reale, who has maintained the same team for the past four summers was proud of his team and the win.

?”What a game! I am very proud of the boys.,” he said. ?”I have loved every minute of working with them and having the privilege to coach them the last four summers … It has been a long time!”

Parents were pleased too.

“For families and players it was nice just having a few more weeks of baseball before our 12-year-olds are done with Little League forever,” parent Harriet Polymeros said. ?
