On this day in 1985, Rock Hudson became the first major Hollywood star to announce he had acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS. Less than three months later, Hudson passed away; he was ?59.
On this day in 1956, an Italian ocean liner, the “Andrea Doria” and a Swedish ocean liner, the “Stockholm,” collided 45 miles off of Nantucket in a heavy fog. 51 people were killed.
And on this day in 1832, the first recorded train accident in U.S. history occurred when four people were thrown off a rail car and down a 34 foot cliff. One person died in the accident.
Born on this day – the late Estelle Getty, star of “The Golden Girls” (1923), actor Matt LeBlanc (1967), and Walter Payton, former Chicago Bears running back (1954).
