Shrewsbury – Maria “Marizinha” Do Carmo Lage, 59, of Shrewsbury, died Sunday, July 29, 2012, at 3:05 p.m., in her daughter's home, surrounded by her family.
She was born Dec. 18, 1952 in Guanhaes, Brazil, a daughter of the late Jose Monteiro De Oliveira and Nancy Belizario De Andrade. Raised and educated in Brazil, she emigrated to the United States in 1995, settling in Shrewsbury.
Maria loved life and she cherished each and every day. Her interests were simple: family and friends gathered for a meal she prepared, simply enjoying the love and gift of each other. She was a phenomenal cook. Maria kept her mind and body active and would exercise and walk every day. She was so very much loved and her legacy lives on in the lives and hearts of her children and grandchildren.
She leaves her children, Ana Bernier and her husband, Wanderson Pardim, of Shrewsbury; Cleriston Lage of Shrewsbury; Natalia Lage and her husband, Araken Fernandes, of Cape Coral, Florida; and Cristina DeOliveira and her husband, Victor, of Shrewsbury. She is the much loved “Vovo” of Gabrielly Faria and her husband Daniel Faria, Ingrid, Matthew, Lucas, Kevin, Yasmin, Joshua, Valentina, and her great-grandchildren, Daniel and Isaac.
Family and friends will honor and remember Marizinha's life by gathering for calling hours Tuesday, July 31, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, and again Wedneasday, Aug. 1, at 8:45 a.m., before leaving in procession to Saint Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Rev. John Devin, C.Ss.R., Archdiocesan Brazilian Apostolate of Boston, will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
