Shrewsbury – Dorothy Cohen, 71, of Shrewsbury, died in her home Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012.

Born Jan. 13, 1941 in New York City, Dorothy earned a Bachelor's degree from City University of New York-Hunter College and a Master's degree in Reading from St. John's University, as part of a career as an early childhood and corrective reading teacher.

After retiring from teaching, Dorothy moved to Colorado to spend time exploring her spiritual beliefs and to enjoy the mountains. She moved to Massachusetts to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Gary Alperson and his wife, Nancy Boren, and David Alperson and his wife, Christian Alperson, and three grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, and Ellianna Alperson. She is also survived by her sister, Lucille Peterson, and her nieces and nephew, Manx Foster, Neil Foster, and Lisa DeCobert.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, at 3 p.m., at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Northborough, 40 Church St., Northborough.? The Britton – Shrewsbury Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
