Southborough – Willard “Bill” S. Putnam, 88, of Southborough, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 at Marlborough Hospital after suddenly being stricken ill. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Wheaton) Putnam for the past 60 years.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He was the administrative assistant to the former Police Chief, Frank Mattioli before he became the Southborough town accountant for many years. He was a member of United Brethren Masonic Lodge of Marlborough and a member of Amicable Masonic Lodge of Cambridge. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid crossword puzzler.

In addition to his wife, he leave his son, Dana Putnam of Southborough; his brothers, Richard Putnam, his twin, of N. New Portland, ME and Frank Putnam of NC; a brother-in-law, Gordon Wheaton of TX; and several nieces.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, Aug. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., at Southborough Rural Cemetery on Middle Road.
