Michael J. Iagallo, 88Spencer – Michael J. Iagallo, of Spencer, formerly of Worcester and Shrewsbury, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012. He was 88.

Mike was born on February 5, 1924 in Worcester a son of Italian immigrants Felix and Josephine (Ciurella) Iagallo. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II proudly serving aboard the USS Canberra. A longtime Shrewsbury resident he moved to Spencer in 1991. He and his wife, Nancy, also divided time between their home in Flagler Beach, Florida.

Mike always knew everything about automobiles and he made his life's work with them. He owned and operated an auto body shop as well as a car lot in which he sold cars for many years in both Worcester and Oxford.

His first wife, Edna M. Paradis died in 1981. He later met Nancy J. Arter and they married on New Year's Eve in 1984.

Mike loved his time in Florida, playing cards with friends a couple times of week and his membership in the fishing club. His family considered him a professional “tinkerer” given he always had a project at hand and was often found working around his homes, cars and yard.

Mike rejoins his first wife, Edna; his grandchildren, Alexis Masiello and Lauren Iagallo; and his siblings, Joseph and Evelyn Iagallo.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, he leaves his sons, Michael J. Iagallo Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Rochdale, Robert G. Iagallo and his wife, Ginger, of Shrewsbury and David J. Iagallo and his wife, Laurie, of Millbury; his step-sons, Mark A. Masiello and his wife, Carolyn, of Shrewsbury, Gary V. Masiello and his wife, Kathy, of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Jason W. Masiello; his in-laws, Norman H. Arter and his partner, David Hoskins, of Holden, John J. Arter of Southbridge and Lisa Arter of California; his grandchildren, Michael Iagallo III and Christopher Iagallo, Robert Iagallo Jr. and Leah Atkinson, Breanna, Alyssa and Angela Iagallo, Nicholas, Michael and Victoria Masiello; his great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kalin Iagallo and Avery Atkinson; nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mike's life by gathering for calling hours Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, honor Mike's memory with a contribution to UMASS Medicine, Development Office, 333 South St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
