Northborough – Irene (Schofield) Tuffs, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 at Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence, Worcester, after a period of declining health. Her husband, Stuart Tuffs, died in 2008.
Irene leaves her son Ian Tuffs of Minnesota; 2 grandchildren, Katya Tuffs of Northborough and William Tuffs of Alton, NH; 1 great- grandson, Jayden Mercier of Northborough; her daughter-in-law, Nina Howard of Millbury; several nieces and nephews; a close friend, Betty Mudway and her Church of the Nativity family.
Born and raised in Liverpool, England, daughter of the late George and Lilian (Colett) Schofield, Irene immigrated to the United States in 1967. She lived in Northborough for the past 28 years and was formerly of Natick.
Irene was employed as a bookkeeper for many years. She was an avid reader and skier. For many years, she enjoyed running road races, playing bridge and traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. Irene was a member of Daughters of the British Empire and was an active member of Church of The Nativity as well as a former member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Natick.
Irene's funeral service was held Sept. 10 in the Church of the Nativity of Northborough.
