Marlborough – Joseph Natoli recently enjoyed a ride in an old Model A Ford.? He sat back proudly reminiscing.
“It surely takes me back to the old days,” he said. “These cars are great.”
He and other residents at Christopher Heights of Marlborough, an assisted living community, were entertained by The Minuteman Model A Ford Club of Sudbury Aug. 22.
Doug and Nanette (Nan) Linden, active members of the club, said they enjoyed sharing their love of antique cars and listening to the stories of cars the residents drove back in their younger days.
“It was a pleasure to be able to give them a ride and see all their smiles,” Nan said. “We heard some very interesting and funny stories.”
She also displayed several dresses that would have been worn during that time period, which event attendees enjoyed seeing.
Denise Jones, executive director of Christopher Heights, said it was a wonderful experience for her, the staff and the residents.
“We will all be talking about it for weeks,” she said.
The Sudbury group was founded in 1963 and has about 165 member families from the eastern Massachusetts area. They meet monthly and drive the cars on approximately 40 tours a year – some weekend trips and some just a ride out for dinner or ice cream.
“We also attend several car shows in the New England area and visit other assisted living facilities,” Nan said.
The Minuteman Model A Ford Club of Massachusetts is associated with national clubs – Model A Ford Club of America and Model A Restorers Club. The group was formed to provide a forum to exchange ideas, information and assistance with fellow Model A enthusiasts and help members who are interested in restoring, maintaining, preserving and driving Model A's. Owning or touring are not requirements of the club, but are encouraged by members.
