Westborough -? What do you get when you cross the music of Irish rock band U2 with a Communion service? An “U2charist”!

For the first time ever, the Congregational Church of Westborough is having a “U2charist service. ?It will be held tomorrow night, Friday, Oct. 12, from 7:30 to 9 p.m, at the church's 57 West Main St., Westborough location.

The program, which features the music of U2 performed by the Willie Sordillo Band (with Pastor Lisa on vocals) is billed as “far more than church with a twist”.

As with all U2charist services, the event serves as a fundraiser in the efforts to fight hunger. One hundred percent of the proceeds of the free-will offering will benefit local organizations. ?In addition, people are invited to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to those in need.

Alto saxophonist Willie Sordillo, with the band he co-founded and co-led, Flor de Caña, is a three-time Boston Music Award winner. One of his albums has been a top 10 hit on Billboard Mgazine's World Music listing. According to his website, www.williesordillo.com, Sordillo is “able to burn on up-beat Latin jazz and be-bop tunes, [but] ?is equally at home with ballads and, either in support of or without a vocalist, The Great American Songbook.”

Other noted musicians who will be accompanying Sordillo at the event include Patrick Mottaz on guitar, Russell Lane on drums, and Hilmar Lehnert on bass guitar.

The event is free and open to the public.
