Marlborough – Assabet Valley Regional Technical High (AVRTHS) recently served a continental breakfast to a group of seniors who had earned the distinction of being John and Abigail Adams scholarship recipients. The 60 students were awarded the scholarships based on their outstanding MCAS scores during their sophomore year. Students qualify by scoring at the Advanced and Proficient levels on both Math and English Language Arts (Advanced on one and at least Proficient on the other), and whose combined scores are among the top 25 percent of their class.

Local students include, from Hudson: Ashley Peck, Camden Herlihy, Dale Sawvelle, Danielle Chaves, and John Boisvert; Marlborough: Alexander Skarin, Alyssa Crowe, Ana Luiza Barroso, Arthur Oliveira, Ashley Padilla, Brendan Pierce, Christian Lopez, Christopher Caissie, Daniella DeAndrade, Darian O’Donnell, Hayley Kurbs, Lucas Peixoto, Madision Lambert, Robert Mulvaney, Sam McKenna, Samantha Sawyer, and Tyler Bishop; Northborough: John Comerato III and William Brodeur; Shrewsbury: Brett Kays, Kaira Hendrickson, Olivia Harbert, and Tyler Chaulk; and Westborough: Brenna Boucher, Jessica Chouinard, and Shannon McCabe.

The scholarship provides a tuition waiver at any Massachusetts college or university for up to eight semesters. Students are still responsible for room and board and other fees, but the savings is significant

“This is the largest group of scholarship recipients we'se had so far,” announced Mark Hollick, Principal. “You should be very proud of yourselves and your accomplishments. Congratulations! We expect you to continue to be high achievers as you go forward from Assabet Valley.”
