Lucia J. Moynihan, 82Shrewsbury – Lucia J. “Lucy” (Garofoli) Moynihan, 82, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 in UMass Memorial Medical Center after a short illness.

Lucy was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Donato and Maria (Consiglio) Garofoli. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1948. She married Robert J. Moynihan on October 4, 1952 and lived in Shrewsbury for almost 60 years.

Lucy had enjoyed working several years for the lunch program in the Shrewsbury School System and later as a secretary for the Glavin Center before she retired in 1988. She was a member of Saint Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her bowling team, meeting her friends at bingo and being able to attend her monthly card games with her wonderful friends. She loved watching golf and many other sports.

Her husband of 47 years, Robert J. Moynihan, died in 1999. She leaves four sons, Robert J. Moynihan of Shrewsbury, Michael J. Moynihan and his wife Esther of Auburn, William T. Moynihan of Shrewsbury, and James J. Moynihan and his wife Carla of Belmont; two daughters, Beth Ann Moro and her husband Stephen of Sterling and Paula J. Henrickson and her husband Fran of Worcester; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by all seven of her siblings, Marco, Maurice, Martha, Frances, Isabel, Theresa, and Ann.

Lucy's family wishes to extend a special thank you to all of the staff on 2 South at UMass Memorial for their compassionate care and understanding shown to Lucy and her family during her illness.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Lucy's family Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Her funeral service will be held from the funeral home Wednesday, Oct. 24, with her funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
