Westborough – Citing its “willingness to be an excellent community partner” town officials presented the grocery store Roche Bros. with Westborough's first-ever Great Corporate Citizenship Award during the Board of Selectmen's Dec. 11 meeting.
Richard Broderick, the Westborough store manager, accepted the award on behalf of the store.
Leigh Emery, the board's chair said the award was established by the selectmen and the town's Economic Development Committee as a way to recognize businesses that had invested and continued to make a positive impact in the community.
“Roche Bros. consistently volunteers to provide refreshments at numerous events as well as for the town's emergency service providers during emergencies,” Emery said.
“Additionally they partner with many community organizations to provide them space for fundraising.”
Prior to the meeting, Broderick said “it felt good to be accepting the award on behalf of the store.”
“We always try to help out in any of our communities,” he added. “We always try to operate that way, whether it's” helping out with a food pantry, donating to an organization or the schools, or going out into the parking lot to help a client with a flat tire.”
Lester Hensley, the chair of the EDC said it was anticipated that the award would be presented on a quarterly basis to local businesses.
