Mildred E. George, 90

Shrewsbury – Mildred E. (Bacon) George, 90, of Shrewsbury passed away on January 7, 2013 in her home after an illness. Her husband, Edward George, died in 2008.

She is survived by her daughters, Karyn Liberty and her husband Les of Dade City FL, Sue Colangelo and her husband Julio of Land O” Lakes, FL, and her son Jay George and his wife Nancy of Worcester; five loving grandchildren, Paul Liberty, John Liberty, Kristie Ruksnaitis, Julio Colangelo III, and Leah Colangelo; and 11 adoring great-grandchildren, Megan, Erin, Samantha, Christina, Lisa, John, Dean, Devin, Ajax, Tuesday, and Trey. She was predeceased by her brother, James Bacon, and her sister Barbara Bacon, who died in 1951.

Millie was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Louis L. and Nettie (Pike) Bacon, and was educated in Worcester schools.

She was a full-time mom and homemaker, but, before that, she was trained and worked as a welder during the War. Later in life, she worked at the former Data General and Julio's Market in the bakery department. She loved her work and the people she met there.

She had a love for animals and an uncanny way with any animal regardless of disposition, and they all adored her. She had a love for people, and treated them all kindly and fairly, and never had a bad word to say about anybody. She possessed a fun-loving spirit; she had a great love of family, and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and watching the Red-Sox, and cooking and baking fabulous dishes for friends and family. She took great pride in her home, and enjoyed working in it, and outside in her gardens.

Millie was a private person, who dedicated her life to her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Her family would like to acknowledge the kind staff at Gentle Care, for making Mom's final days at home wonderful. Special thanks to Miriam, Lydia, and Sandy for their kindness and devotion during a difficult time.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour Friday, Jan. 11, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., followed by her funeral service at noon. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.
