Westborough – The Board of Selectmen (BOS) voted unanimously to appoint Jeffrey Bakstran as a reserve intermittent police officer on Feb. 26.
Police Chief Alan Gordon requested of the board that Bakstran be appointed, effective immediately. According to Gordon, Bakstran recently graduated from the reserve intermittent police academy.
“I think he's be a great addition to the police force,” Gordon said.
Gordon said he decided to request Bakstran be appointed after one of his sergeants told him of Bakstran's experience of refereeing hockey at the NorthStar Youth Forum as well as in Marlborough.
“I think that's a good measure of how he's going to handle this job,” Gordon said.
As a reserve intermittent police officer, Bakstran will only be assigned to police detail work. Gordon said this will be at “no cost to the town.”
Previously, Bakstran has done sports broadcasting on 105.7-FM's “Loren and Wally” morning show.
The board also re-appointed John Matson as a Registrar of Voters for a 3-year term.
Town Clerk Nancy Yendriga made the request before the board that Matson be re-appointed to the position, describing him as “trustworthy and ever-faithful.” Matson has served as a Registrar of Voters in Westborough since April of 1998.
