Region – The second-seed Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) Tomahawks met the third-seed Wachusett Regional High School Mountaineers for the Central Mass. Division 1 semi-final girls” basketball game on March 5 in the Kneller Athletic Center at Clark University in Worcester.
Both teams got off to a sluggish start, punctuated by numerous turnovers. The first period ended with a very low score of 4-3 in the Tomahawks’ favor.? The scoring picked up a little in the second period and the first half ended with Algonquin still in the lead, 12-10.
In the second half, the Mountaineers came out shooting and soon opened up a lead. Towards the end of the fourth period however, the Tomahawks closed the gap to three points, but missed two attempts to score. The final score was Wachusett 34, ARHS 31.? The Mountaineers will now meet Holy Name Central Catholic High School in the district final.? Holy Name defeated Shepherd Hill Regional High School 55-33 March 5. (Photos/Chris Wraight)
