Northborough – Each year, Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For 25 years, more than four million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest. The theme of the 2013-14 Peace Poster Contest is “Our World, Our Future.”
For the past 15 years, the Northborough Lions have partnered with eight-graders at the Melican Middle School to create artwork for submission to the international art contest.
This year, the Northborough Lions are pleased to announce the artwork will be displayed in an art show to take place beginning on Thursday, March 7 through Wednesday, March 13 at the Central One Federal Credit Union. 148 Main St, Northborough.? A special reception will be held on the evening of March 7 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Anyone unable to attend the reception is invited to view the artwork during Central One's normal business hours (Monday and Thursday 7 am to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.) All are invited – you do not need to be a member of the credit union to attend the art show.
In 2012, the Northborough Lions donated over $14,000 to local and national charities and organizations, including the Northborough Food Pantry, Algonquin Girls Gymnastics, Mass. ?Eye Research, and Project Linus. In conjunction with the Northborough Public Schools, they arrange for eye exams and glasses for children in town whose families could not otherwise afford eye glasses.
