Shrewsbury – Ruth M. Gill, 95, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully Friday, March 8, 2013 in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. Ruth was born May 1, 1917 in Boston to Stephen R. and Catherine (McHugh) Mealey. Her devoted husband of 61 years, W. Harold Gill, passed away in 1999.
She leaves three children, William H. Gill and his wife, Sharon, of Sacramento, CA, Paul F. Gill of Northborough, and Barbara C, Michalak and her husband, Paul, of Shrewsbury, and daughter-in-law, Mary J. Gill of Shrewsbury. She leaves eight grandchildren, Bryan Gill, Michael Gill, John Michalak, Michelle Sonder, Marci Palmer, Rob Gill, Lauren Kennedy and Jennifer Giannini; 13 great-grandchildren, Bayley, Mikayla, Kaitlyn, Connor, Sean, Andrew, Chase, Meghan, Carter, Ashlyn, Rielyn, Kaedyn and Emersyn; one sister, Sister Mary Paul, O.S.C. of Jamaica Plain; and one brother, Thomas Mealey. Her sister, Katherine T. Whitty, predeceased her.
The center of Ruth's life was her strong faith and her family. She took great pride in all the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ruth was a devout Catholic and communicant at daily Mass at Saint Mary's and more recently at Notre Dame. She was a member of Saint Mary's Women's League, The Guild of Our Lady of Providence, and the Shrewsbury Women's Club. She volunteered for many years, with her husband, at UMass. She was employed at Claflin-Donahue in Worcester for many years, retiring in 1979.
Ruth's family extends special thanks to the incredible staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center for their dedication and compassionate care.
Calling hours will be Monday, March 11, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, March 12, from the funeral home, with a Mass celebrating her life to be held at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
