Obit Shirley ClemonsShrewsbury – Shirley L. (Blackman) Clemons, 77, of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 in UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus after an illness.

She leaves behind her love of her life of 47 years, Arthur H. Clemons of Shrewsbury; a brother-in-law, Edward Clemons of Shrewsbury, a niece and two nephews, Mark Clemons, Amy D”Avia, David Clemons, and their spouses, Gayle Clemons, David D”Avia, and Tara Clemons; four grandnieces and a grandnephew, Andrew, Vanessa, Heather, Allison, and Jessica; an aunt, Dorothy Horne of Naples, Florida; her adopted family, Eris, Deb, Katie, Krystal, Shamrock, and Owen Barrera; cousins Greg, Lynn, Barbara, and Robert; and many dear friends.

Shirley was born and raised in Worcester, the only child of the late Allen C. and Doris L. (Horne) Blackman. She graduated from Commerce High School and Salters Secretarial School both in Worcester.

She began her working career as a public relation secretary for The Wyman-Gordon Corporation. Later in her life she worked with her husband in their family business, Shrewsbury Machine Co. as secretary and office manager for many years.

Shirley was a very creative and active person. She was always organizing some type of function that would benefit other people. For over 28 years, she was the point person that organized the Christmas Parties for the residents at the Glavin Regional Center in Shrewsbury. She was a member of Greendale People's Church in Worcester where she was a Sunday School Teacher and very active in the PROTO 4 Group.

Shirley's family wishes to recognize the nursing staff at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and The Visiting Nurse Association of Worcester for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Shirley and her family during her final days. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Daniel Massarelli and Dr. Oren Schaefer for their medical guidance through Shirley's illness.

A memorial service was held March 2 in the Greendale People's Church in Worcester.
