Westborough swimmer competes at regional meet

Sports-icon-for-website[1]Westborough – Savant Liu, 12, of Westborough, was among 116 members of the Bluefish Swim Club to qualify for and compete at the New England Swimming Regional Meet, held at Seekonk High School in February. Regionals are divided into seven locations throughout New England to accommodate all of the swimmers, from approximately 100 swim teams.

At Regionals, Savant won the male 11 to 12 year old 400-yard individual (IM) with a swim time of 5:19.63. He also ?earned second place in the 100-yard IM (1:08.13), third place in the 500-yard freestyle (5:48.75), fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle (27.50) and 50-yard fly (31.37), sixth place in the 50-yard breaststroke (38.50), and eighth place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:23.50). In addition, Savant was the anchor of the Bluefish team that ranked second in the male 11 to 12 year old 200-yard freestyle relay (1:49.78) and a key member of the team that ranked third in the 200-yard medley relay (2:09.89).

In addition, Savant was among 33 members of the Bluefish Swim Club to qualify for and compete at the New England Swimming 12 and Under Age Group Championship meet, held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt., Feb. 28 to March 3. The Bluefish ranked fifth-place overall at this championship meet with 1,538.50 points. Several hundred of the top 12 and younger swimmers from more than 65 New England-based swim teams competed at this meet.
