Marlborough – Although Marlborough residents and officials have agreed since 2002 that the city needs a new senior center, agreeing on its location is proving to be difficult. To keep costs down, a city-owned property is preferred.
Mayor Arthur Vigeant recently proposed building the center on a small portion – less than 3 percent – of Ward Park, an idea not supported by residents who want to retain the park as a recreation area.
The disagreement has resulted in those opposed hiring an attorney to fight the proposal as unlawful, while the city's solicitor maintains that the city can proceed and build the new senior center there, a stance the city is prepared to defend in court.
