Northborough – For nearly 50 years, Brown's TV and Appliance was an iconic business in Northborough. When the owners, father Frank Jr. and sons Frank III and David, made the decision to close at the end of January, they, as well as the community at large, felt great sadness.? ???But now the store has re-opened, under new owners who are another father-and-sons team.
Chris Pelevan and his sons Denis and Eddy Pelevan, and John Crowley, come from diverse backgrounds. Chris is a former plant supervisor who now volunteers as a medical interpreter for the UMass Worcester Medical Center. Denis is a former San Diego deputy sheriff. Eddy has worked in delivery and installation for many years, including at Brown's. And John too has a great deal of experience in installation and repairs.
When the Browns suggested that Chris and his sons take over the business, Chris said his family thought it would be a great opportunity to merge their different skill sets.
“They said we could keep the “Brown's name,” he noted of the former owners. “They have a great reputation and were known for treating people well and always being honest. We plan on continuing that tradition of superb service.”
Customers will be able to purchase not only televisions but other major home appliances, Chris said.
“We know that we will be facing a lot of competition from the big box stores,” he said. ?”Our difference is that not only will we have the same items at the same price [as the box stores], we will also have free delivery and free takeaways. We will install everything from beginning to end. There will be no subcontractors. You will always be able to reach one of us. And you will always know who you are dealing with at all times.”
“People think that just because you are small, your price won's be good, but that's not true,” Denis added. “And not only will we have a lot of stock on hand, we can do special orders too.”
Denis will be the store's “front man,” while Chris will serve as the chief financial officer. Eddy and John will be involved with sales as well as installation.
The new owners are also planning an official grand opening sometime this spring.
“We'sl be announcing details soon,” Chris said. “And we hope that everyone will come down that day and visit us. We'se excited to be part of this community!”
The store, located at 243 Main St., is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 12 to 5 p.m. To contact them call 508- 393-8713, email [email protected] or visit http://www.brownstvandappliance.com.
