Roy is honored by University of Miami

Shrewsbury – Megan Marie Roy, who will be graduating May 10 from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., has been named the “most outstanding undergraduate student” at the Frost ??School of Music.? She will receive a Bachelors of Music and a degree in music education.

While at the University of Miami, she participated in a variety of ensembles including: Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble, Trombone Choir, Brass Quintet, Jazz Band, Salsa Orchestra, Jazz Voice Ensemble I and Marching Band.? During her sophomore year she performed in the Gloria Estefan music video “Hotel National.” For the past four years, she has been a mentor and gave trombone lessons to students at the Greater Miami Youth Symphony Orchestra.

In her junior year, Roy was president of the music sorority Sigma Alpha Iota and president of the National Association for Music Educators Collegiate for UM.? She also was selected to join Iron Arrow, which is the highest honor given at the university for scholarship, leadership, character, humility and love of alma mater.

Roy has been accepted to William Paterson University where she will pursue a master's degree in jazz voice performance.? She recently was named as a Fulbright Scholar and will spend the next year in Poland.

She is the daughter of Steve and Lynn Roy of Shrewsbury.
