Marlborough students participate in science fair at Gillette Stadium

Marlborough-Six middle school students from Marlborough participated in the 5th annual “Science of Sports” science fair with New England Patriots” owner Robert Kraft, Raytheon Chairman and CEO William H. Swanson and Patriots” left tackle Nate Solder May 5 at Gillette Stadium.

The students joined more than 130 middle school students from 17 Boys & Girls Clubs across the region to participate in a five-month science program culminating in the science fair. It involves more than 80 Raytheon volunteer mentors who visit the clubs weekly to help imagine and execute projects that explore math and science through sports.

During the event, the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation and Raytheon awarded 15 scholarships to the top three teams to be used for education focused on science and technology.

The “Science of Sports” science fair program is part of Raytheon's “MathMovesU” program, designed to increase students” interest in math and science education. It is a key component of the partnership between Raytheon and the New England Patriots initiated in September 2008 with the opening of The Hall at Patriot Place presented by Raytheon.

Marlborough 1 Team members included: mentors John Beadreau and Fran Hartwich and students Jacob Fichtner, Austin Mann and Andrew Smith.

Marlborough 2 Team members included: mentors Kenneth Rispoli and Aaron Mailhot and students Angelina Guadagnino, Corben Bowen and Jesse Hogan.
